Sharp Introduces 20" Multi-Touch Monitor

Grant's Perspective on ... the LL-S201A, 20",  HD, multi-touch monitor will be shipping next month (March, 2013).

The monitor will recognize 10 touch points at one time and will work with both fingers and a 2 mm tip touch pen and is Windows 8 compatible. A neat feature is the 180 degree rotate icon that will enable quick flipping of the image when working face-to-face with people across a table. No turning the monitor.

The photo below shows the monitor with the 75 degree stand that is suited for using the monitor as a PC display. It can also be propped up at a 10 degree angle for writing and typing with an on-screen keyboard and can also lay flat, so that several people can view at once.

QuadPixel: Seeing It Is Believing

Grant's Perspective on ... seeing the yellow pixel demonstration at InfoComm.

As a follow up to the June 4 post on the Sharp QuadPixel technology, I had a demo of the unit at InfoComm. I am really impressed with the reproduction of the yellow and blue colour spectrum. I was also very surprised at how bright the monitor is. See the picture of the monitor and our Sharp representative Joe below.

I am pleased that Sharp has introduced a Blue Ray player with RS-232 control. This will be welcomed by control system programmers.

I also wanted to send out congratulations to Sharp and their XG-P560W DLP projector for winning the Best Video Projection Product/10K Lumen or Less category.

Lounge to Videoconference Classroom

Grant's Perspective on ... turning a lounge into a videoconference classroom.

I was working on-site yesterday at a local university. We were going through the final audio tests making sure the system was working as planned. Everything went well and as I was ready to leave I surveyed the room and commented on how the room has changed in the last two months. What had been a "smoking" lounge (back when those types of things were allowed) has been transformed into a distance education classroom for nursing students.

It is amazing what positive change can happen with a little help from technology. Nursing students in Winnipeg will have some of their lectures delivered from a professor in Ottawa.

System Overview:

- HD Tandberg videoconference system.
- Additional Vaddio HD camera.
- Two 65" Sharp HD monitors (pictured) as well as an third ceiling mounted monitor for the podium presenter.
- Podium and wireless microphones for the presenter and a boundary microphone system for the students.
- Large 12" AMX touch screen panel that controls the videoconference system, audio system, DVD player, computer systems and room lighting. See the close up picture of the AMX touch screen below. Note that the picture of me in the top right hand is the HD camera focused on the podium.

I can't wait for the school year to start and see the technology in action. Another case of "Improved Communication from Technology Integration . . . and a lot of other cool stuff too !"
